Upgraded People* vs. Disabled

Picture2

Our team strongly dislikes the widely used term “disabled people”. People who, for various reasons, have issues with their arm and leg limbs are considered by our society as somewhat not ordinary people. Such an opinion brings psychological pain and discomfort to this part of humanity. We strive to produce as many affordable prostheses for arms and legs as possible so that the world only has “enabled people”.

However, we see our main task not even in this. It seems to us that we should endow our prostheses with additional functionality, which is not available to most people, and people with prostheses will be not just “enabled people” but “upgraded people”.

Can you grab a boiled egg with your hand from boiling water, pay for goods with a movement of your hand, pick up the necessary tool among a dozen fixed to your leg, unscrew a small screw with a finger, hold a tool and a flashlight with one hand…

We have already developed and manufactured a large number of additional gadgets for HopeLabs prostheses and standardized the ways of attaching them to the prostheses, however, we believe that truly useful devices can be manufactured based on the suggestions of the people who need them. Therefore, we announce a competition for the idea of a needed gadget for a prosthesis on our Telegram channel @upgraded_peoples. When receiving 100 likes in the channel, the idea’s author will get a branded mug from us. For 1000 likes, we will send the contestant a branded T-shirt. And for an idea that gets more than 10000 likes, we will send the winner our branded traction prosthesis absolutely free. The list of solutions we have already implemented:

  • Incorporation of a payment NFC chip into the prosthetic hand;
  • A thimble for working with touch-screen devices;
  • A universal holder for a flashlight, laser ruler, mobile phone, scales (on the principle of the Picatinny rail) on top of the prosthetic hand;
  • A direct attachment to the index finger with a holder for a brush/art knife/clay modeling tool;
  • A direct attachment to the index finger for interchangeable screwdrivers;
  • An angled attachment to the index finger with a holder for a pen/pencil/marker;
  • Interchangeable decorative overlays for the prosthetic leg with “chameleon,” “rainbow” effects;
  • Interchangeable decorative overlays for the prosthetic leg with places for fixing various stickers;
  • Interchangeable functional overlays for the prosthetic leg with holders for various tools. We look forward to your ideas for Upgraded Peoples.
